Companies often use images of postcard-like island scenery to sell their products on TV. One sun-drenched island which you have probably seen in one TV commercial or another is Santorini, in Greece.

 - sun-drenched: 햇빛/햇볕이 많이 내리쬐는

 - drench = soak: 흠뻑 적시다

 

Santorini was formed from lava that spewed out of a volcanic eruption about 3,600 years ago.

 - spew out of: ...에서 분출하다

 - spew: 뿜어져 나오다, 분출되다, 뿜어내다

 

When the center of the volcano sank into the sea, many small islands were created. One of them was Santorini. To enjoy Santorini to its fullest, you should probably stay in Fira, the capital of the island.

In order to sample some genuine Greek cuisine―including fresh calamari―poke your head into some of the delightful restaurants and cafes.

 - calamari = squid: 식용 오징어

For sun-worshippers, there is a bus on the island that takes visitors to some sublime beaches along the coast.

Almost anyone who has visited says the sunsets, with their fantastic spectrum of reds, oranges, and yellows are out of this world.
