1. 일상(in every English)

 

1.1. you're right/that's right etc

[용법] 누군가 말한 것에 대해 동의할 때 사용

[예시]

A: It's too far to walk.

B: You're right. Let's get a taxi.

 

1.2 I agree

[용법] you're right보다 약간 더 진지하고 격식을 갖춘 표현

[예시]

A: All this packaging is unnecessary. It's bad for the environment.

B: I agree.

[주의] 누군가의 의견에 동의할 때는 'agree'나 'agree to'가 아니라 'agree with'를 써야 함

I agree with Professor Murphy's analysis of the situation.

 

1.3 I know

[용법] 회화체(spoken English, 구어체). 누군가와 같은 느낌이나 경험을 가진 경우

[예시]

A: It's really hot today.

B: I know―I wish I hadn't worn my swear.

 

 

2. 격식체(in formal English)

 

2.1 share sb's view/concern/fear etc

[용법] 다른 사람과 같은 의견, 걱정, 두려움 등을 갖고 있는 경우

[예시] I share her concerns about the lack of women in high academic positions.

 

2.2 be of the same opinion/view

[용법] 일군의 사람들이 무언가에 동의할 때 주로 사용

[예시] Oppenheimer and many of the world's leading scientists were of the same view.

 

2.3 subscribe to a view/theory etc

[용법] 어떠한 의견이나 사상 등이 옳다고 믿어서 동의하는 경우

[예시] Some people think that we should abandon farm subsidies, but I, for one, do not subscribe to this view.

 

2.4 concur with sb/sth

[용법] 매우 격식을 차린 표현. 누군가에게 동의할 때 사용

[예시] I concur with the previous speaker on both points.

 

2.5 sb makes a good/valid point

[용법] 공적인 상황에서 누군가가 말한 특정한 것/사항에 대해서 동의할 때

[예시] The author makes a good point when he argues that we should look at the wider social causes of crime.

 

2.6 sb's point is well made

[용법] 주로 공적인 논의나 토론에서 누군가가 명쾌하게 자신이 옳음을 보여주었으며 그들이 말한 것이 중요하다고 생각할 때, 여기에 무언가를 덧붙이는 경우에 사용

[예시] Weber's point is well made, but is obviously not the whole story.

 

2.7 it is generally/widely accepted that (=there is a widely held view/belief that)

[용법] 대부분의 사람들이 무언가가 참이라는 데 동의할 때 사용

[예시] It is now generally accepted among scientists that global warming is occurring as a result of human activities.

 

3. 강한 동의(strongly agreeing)

 

3.1 I totally agree!/I couldn't agree more!/My feelings exactly!

[용법] 회화체(구어체). 누군가에게 전적으로 동의할 때 사용

[예시]

A: He's such a nice man!

B: I couldn't agree more!

 

3.2 I agree entirely/wholeheartedly (=I am entirely in agreement with sb)

[용법] 3.1보다 조금 더 격식을 차린 표현.

[예시] I agree entirely with the Chief Judge's conclusion.

 

3.3 Absolutely!/Definitely!/Exactly!

[용법] 회화체(구어체). 누군가에게 전적으로 동의한다고 재빨리 대답할 때 사용

[예시]

A: I think gas prices are much too high.

B: Absolutely!

 

3.4 Totally!

[용법] (미국) 비격식체, 회화체(구어체). 누군가에게 전적으로 동의한다고 재빨리 대답할 때 사용

[예시]

A: The guy is an idiot!

B: Totally!

 

3.5 You're telling me!

[용법] 비격식체, 회화체(구어체). 특히 같은 경험을 한 경우에 사용

[예시]

A: The trains are so unreliable these days.

B: You're telling me―mine was half an hour late this morning.

 

4. 부분 동의(partly agreeing)

 

4.1 I agree up to a point/to some extent

[용법] 누군가에게 부분적으로 동의할 때 사용

[예시]

A: The economic situation doesn't look too good at the moment.

B: I agree with you up to a point, but I don't think it's nearly as bad as people are saying.

 

4.2 I have some sympathy with sb/sth

[용법] 반드시 전적으로 동의하는 것은 아니지만, 누군가가 왜 그렇게 생각하는지 이유를 이해한다고 말할 때 사용

[예시] I have some sympathy with the argument that the monarchy seems out of place in our modern world.

 

 

4.3 there is some/a lot of truth in sth

[용법] 누군가가 말한 것이 얼마간 또는 매우 맞다고 생각할 때 사용

[예시] Although these warning may sound very dramatic, there is some truth in them.

 

4.4 I suppose so/I guess so

[용법] 회화체(구어체). 누군가가 말한 것에 대해 얼마간 의문을 품을 때 사용

[예시]

A: I think it's an excellent idea.

B: I suppose so, but we don't know how much it will all cost.
